Fiber Filtration Tubes (FFTs)

Fiber Filtration Tubes (FFTs)

Fiber filtration tubes, or FFTs, are a water treatment device designed to trap and filter sediment runoff. These heavy duty cylindrical tubes are man-made and designed to work in tandem with other ESC methods, such as hydroseeding, erosion control blankets, and turf reinforcement matting.

Water passes through FFTs, trapping soil particles in the composite of the tube, essentially filtering the water. This method can reduce turbidity, the amount of suspended sediment in the water, leaving runoff to enter rivers and streams without leaving erosion behind.

FFTs also reduce water flow velocity, slowing the water down and allowing it to pass through the filter to effectively trap the sediment. By slowing the velocity and filtering out the sediment, FFTs can enhance vegetation establishment downstream.

Unlike a silt fence, FFTs can be left in place after project completion to slowly biodegrade and blend in with existing landscapes.
