How SAFE are Herbicides? 🌱

HERBICIDES: How safe are they?

The most dreaded topic for us applicators. Mainly, because this is where we get a lot of responses that aren't always super kindly worded, you know?

BUT we're not afraid. And we're here to EDUCATE. So read on, friend.

The mode of action of herbicides is specific to plant enzymes and cells that are not present in animals or insects, including bees.

Unconvinced or want to read more about herbicide impacts? Check out this quick read from the Invasive Species Council of BC.

STOP THE SPREAD!

Invasive plants are introduced and spread by:

  • Unintentional dispersal by humans during activities and by nature
  • Being planted in gardens
  • Improper disposal of garden plants

So for those of you who shop for garden plants on Facebook marketplace, buyer beware! Lately, in the Fort St John area, we've seen a lot of invasive up for sale, specifically Comfrey. This plant can be toxic to animals!

Check of PRRD's list of invasive plants HERE.
